John Wayne
Movietrailer McQ (1974) and
Movietrailer Brannigan (1975)
McQ (1974)
is a crime drama
starring John Wayne, Eddie Albert, Diana Muldaur, and Colleen Dewhurst. The film made extensive use of actual Seattle locations. The beach scenes were filmed on the Pacific coast at Moclips.
The film features a young Roger E. Mosley as a police informer, Colleen Dewhurst as a cocaine addict and Al Lettieri as the principal villain of the film, the drug king Santiago, in one of Lettieri’s final roles.
Wayne had been passed over for the lead in Dirty Harry a few years prior to this film. The producers of that film chose Seattle as its location in an earlier version of the script; it was later changed to San Francisco when Clint Eastwood became connected with the project. The film also has a dramatic car chase, with Wayne in a 1973Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, influenced by Steve McQueen in Bullitt.
Brannigan (USA 1975)
Jim Brannigan (John Wayne) is sent to London to bring back an American mobster who is being held for extradition but when he arrives he has been kidnapped which was set up by his lawyer. Brannigan in his American Irish way brings American law to the people of Scotland Yard in order to recapture this mobster with both A price tag on his head and a stuffy old London cop to contend with.
John Wayne cast aside his usual Western gear to portray a tough Irish-American detective on assignment in London to catch a crook who fled the United States to avoid extradition. Wayne’s partner in criminal hunting is a British Inspector (Richard Attenborough) with a very different personal style. After a rough bit, they become partners and cooperate in a rousing batch of car chases, false and good leads, booby traps, etc., before they trap their man. Detective Wayne finds time for some heavy flirting with constable Judy Geeson (TO SIR, WITH LOVE), who would prefer that Wayne’s flirting was considerably less heavy. Screenplay co-written by Christopher Trumbo (son of Dalton Trumbo).
